OPAL Opal is the traditional birthstone for October. It is a delicate gem, rated fair for wear ability. Opal is not a crystal like other gems, and is comprised mainly of tiny silica spheres and water, irregularly stacked like oranges at the grocery store. Color varies in depth of color and color change, no two are alike. The base color varies from clear to white to grey to blue to black.
